Marine Technician Supervisor

Raytheon Polar Services is the primary contractor for the National Science Foundation's (NSF) Antarctic Program and we are currently seeking a Marine Technician Supervisor to work full-time in the Marine department at our Centennial Office. Job Summary: The Marine Technician Supervisor will be responsible for hiring and supervision of Marine Technicians, including proper staffing and safe operation of the Marine Technicians aboard the USAP research vessels. The Supervisor is responsible for developing and managing an annual budget to cost, schedule, and scope. The Supervisor is responsible for management and technical over-
sight of subcontracts relating to marine technical issues. The Supervisor is also responsible for procurements and maintenance of equipment needed to support science objectives. Other duties include: � Develops budgets, staffing and implementation plans, and manages the NSF-approved budgets and plans within cost, schedule, and scope annually. Is responsible for the writing and the technical management of marine technical subcontracts, including obtaining quotes and preparing statements of work for use by Subcontracts. Subcontracts may include but are not limited to the construction and/or maintenance of all over-the-side equipment, winches, seismic air compressors and "at-sea" technical support. Is qualified and capable of serving as the Marine Projects Coordinator (MPC) when needed. As MPC, the Supervisor, Marine Technician, will serve as the senior RPSC staff member and will be liaison between the scientific party and the ship's Master and crew. Responsible for planning the configuration of research vessel deck spaces for science cruises, transits, and dry dock/maintenance periods. Assists cruise POCs in planning port call activities and schedules. � Coordinates the review of all proposals requiring marine technician support (e.g. NSF-funded and approved grantees, technical events, and subcontractors), including assessing support requirements and developing resource plans and cruise schedules, to meet requirements. � Specifies new equipment procurements and modifications within budget, based on the requirements of upcoming projects. Supervises the installation and maintenance of new, oceanographic equipment aboard the USAP research vessels. Minimum Requirements: Bachelor's degree in one of the Marine Sciences or a related field required. Equivalent work experience accepted in lieu of a degree. A minimum of two years experience as a marine technician on research vessels in on-deck capacity, assisting with scientific programs or applicable career expe-
rience is required. Position requires a comprehensive background in "at-sea" oceanographic work. Preferred Experience: USCG license or document as Able-bodied Seaman desirable. Experience in commercial marine operations such as fisheries, high latitude, or polar experience a plus. Preference given to individuals with academic research vessel experience. Supervisory experience preferred. Additional information: All full-time positions include competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package. For time spent in Antarctica (if applicable), compensation includes room & board and eligibility for a salary uplift (there is a 54 hour work week in Antarctica).
