MarAd Unveils MarView
Tidewater Inc. announced its second quarter net earnings for the period ended September 30, 2008, of $95.4m, or $1.85 per common share, on revenues of $346.8m. For the same quarter last year, net earnings were $86.5 million, or $1.56 per common share, on revenues of $319m. The immediately preceding quarter ended June 30, 2008, had net earnings of $84.8m, or $1.64 per common share, on revenues of $340.1m.
Ocean Deck Barge Sold
Taizhou Sanfu Ship Engineering, Ltd. of China recently sold an 8,200dwt newbuilding ocean deck barge to German buyers on private terms. The barge was classed ABS +A1 Barge, Unrestricted Service and built with a 12mm side shell and 16mm bottom and deck plate. Uniform deck load is 15mt/m2. The 300 ft. (91.5m) x 90-ft. (27.5m) x 18-ft. (5.5m) barge will head for Europe under her new name, Nostag 10. The buyer requested removal of the bin walls prior to delivery.
Belzona Distributor Aids After Ike
Information on the condition and performance of the Marine Transportation System - including U.S. ports, vessels, waterways and intermodal connections -- will be available on a Web-based, data-driven set of tools developed by the MarAd. The information system, called MarView, provides access to more than 2500 links to transportation data sources, giving statistics on intermodal freight transportation and on trained and licensed mariners. It provides real-time tracking of vessels, plus physical attributes information on national and international ports, vessels, and related facilities. MarView provides real time information on waterways and facilities and background facts about domestic and foreign shipbuilding and repair yards.

Belzona said that its Distributor in Houston reached out to the local community by relieving the structural damage impact suffered by local businesses due to Hurricane Ike. Belzona Houston offered a 40% discount throughout the month of October on Belzona 3111 (Flexible Membrane) - a single component material ideal for the repair of skylights, roof penetrations, gutters, parapet walls, or as a total roof coating which can be applied onto any type of roof surface (metal, tar and gravel, concrete, rubber) by brush, roller, or spray.
American Commercial Lines Inc. (ACL) said that its Manufacturing Division, Jeffboat, received a Governor's Award for Environmental Excellence from the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) on September 17 at the 11th annual Pollution Prevention Conference and Trade Show in Plainfield, IN. Jeffboat received the award for pollution prevention as a result of its implementation of a new system to blend epoxy coating with paint. This new process enabled Jeffboat to reduce hazardous waste generation by more than 25,000 pounds annually. It also resulted in the reduction of solvent usage by about 4,000 gallons annually while increasing production by 33 percent. Finally, the new process eliminated about 28,000 pounds of volatile organic compounds.
