Oceansaver BWMS Gets IMO Approval
O c e a n Sa v e r ' s ballast water management system was granted final approval from the IMO at the October 2008 meeting of the Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC 58). There are now four ballast water management systems with final approval from the IMO convention on ballast water treatment. OceanSaver made its first commercial delivery in fall 2008.

RWO's CleanBallast technology for onboard treatment of ballast water removes organisms, sediments and suspended solids in two steps: A DiskFilter system for mechanical separation when taking in ballast water, followed by the EctoSys disinfection unit which further reduces the number of living organisms, without chemicals, before reaching the ballast water tanks. This system is designed for heavy duty operation in waters with very high sediment load, and has low system pressure loss and no increase in corrosion to the ballast system. The EctoSys disinfection system is used again when de-ballasting in the destination port, ensuring a disruptionfree and clean water cycle whether in river water, brackish water or seawater.
