Bigger is Better at Graham
Earlier this year C&G Boat Works launched the Gulf Princess for owner Graham Gulf. Originally conceived as a 175 by 34-ft vessel the decision was made during construction to add a ten ft extension, bringing the vessel length to 185 ft. The original power package was retained. This included four 1,800 hp Cummins KTA50-M main engines turning 48 inch propellers through ZF 4650 gears with 2.5:1 reduction. A Cummins 6CTA8.3DM engine powers the Thrustmaster TH250RT retractable bow thruster. Two Cummins 85 kW 6BTA5.9DM/Newage generator sets supply the vessels electrical requirements. The Gulf Princess is DP-1 rated with a system supplied by Kongsberg. A sister vessel, to be named the Sybil Graham, is currently in build for delivery in the third quarter of 2009. The Sybil Graham will be classed DP-2.

Engine Room Sim Conf
The International Maritime Lecturers Association (IMLA) in cooperation with The United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) and The Global Maritime and Transportation School (GMATS) present the ninth International Conference on Engine Room Simulators (ICERS 9), on November 2 - 5, 2009. The conference is a global forum for the exchange of knowledge, experience, views, research results and the identification of common problems with respect to the specification, design and use of engine room simulators (full mission/full task, part-task or desk-top PC based). This year's theme is "Assessment and Research in Engine Room Simulation" and the conference will be held in Kings Point, N.Y. Abstracts of papers which are related to the above theme, are invited. Additionally, ICERS 9 will provide a separate session for paper presentations by engine room simulator manufacturers. Visit the ICERS 9 web site (http://gmats.usmma.edu/info/events/ic ers/) for more information or contact Hilary Flanagan, Marketing and Business Development Manager, at (516) 726-6151 or hilary.flanagan@ usmma.edu.
